NCGS help and not Celiac cures

There are a lot of people out there with the cure to Celiac disease. Papaya enzymes, Miracle Mineral Solution, Gluten Ease, and Juicing. Its amazing!! I’m surprised the doctors don’t recommend it and we aren’t all using these cures today – my life would be much easier if I could not worry about my stupid Celiac.

Unfortunately, none of these are for Celiac Disease. The only way to alleviate Celiac symptoms is with a gluten free diet. I am NOT recommending any of these but trying to let you know these things are NOT solutions. However, there are some interesting options for NCGS or gluten sensitivity.

Now, I did find a study where papaya enzymes helped with NCGS. The study involved patients with non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity that did a gluten “washout” for 1 week. They took a survey talking about their symptoms. Then they were separated into two groups – one with placebo and one group that got enzymes. Then for two weeks, the people ate their medicine with a piece of bread. At the end, the people with the medicine reported significant improvement in symptoms compared to people on placebo. Now, if I had NCGS, I’d be looking for this stuff and starting a low-FODMAP diet.

Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) is up next. MMS claims to cure malaria, AIDS, and Celiac. This is the scariest of the snake oil solutions. It is made by mixing 28 percent sodium chlorite solution with an acid such as citrus juice.  This mixture can cause nauseas, vomiting, dirrhea, and renal failure. The MMS acolytes say it is working based on the idea of “rope worms” which is really the mucous membranes of the intestines. Please don’t ever take this stuff.

GlutenEase, GlutenAid, Gluten Assist or other enzyme that helps to break down gluten. There are several drugs in development and clinical trials that will break down gluten. I think that should be a red flag – if drugs are in development for breakdown of gluten in the digestive tract, over the counter drugs won’t work. Let me say it again, over the counter drugs won’t break down gluten. That’s all I’m gonna say about that.

This one is my favorite today – Juicing. Of course, eating more fruit and vegetables will help you feel better. This woman owns a cold-pressed juicing company and on her website says that she was diagnosed with Celiac two years ago. She further says that juicing and especially her juicing company helped heal her Celiac. She says, ” if your gut is healed and very strong you can handle some gluten. And if you heal your gut you can get rid of celiac disease forever.” No, this is not true.  I’m not saying juicing won’t help, but I’m saying it will not cure Celiac. If you have Celiac, you always have Celiac. Again, this might be helpful for NCGS, but it would be a trial and error testing.

Lots of people will say they can cure Celiac. They can’t. If you have gluten intolerance, gluten insensitivity, or believe gluten is your enemy, there are ways to help. Some solutions have undergone scientific scrutiny and some haven’t. If cutting out gluten is enough and you feel better, problem solved. If cutting out gluten isn’t enough or you just want that delicious gluten pizza, then may be try some of the solutions above, but not the drinking bleach ever, ever.
