Children and celiac disease…..a study group
relating to children and adolescents with celiac
disease.
A study group with children and adolescents with
celiac disease, and their parents was convened. The
groups created met four different times covering the
following topics – body functions and structures,
activities and participation, and personal and
environmental factors. In reading the results, there
was nothing earth shattering. When I say that, the
information provided is something any of us would
describe as the burden of living with celiac.
But what is important is that researchers now have
direct quotes from celiac patients describing their
experience. The direct quotes from each family and
experience should give researchers more insight to the
difficulty of living with celiac. Even from children as
young as 10 learning to advocate for themselves as
part of living with celiac.
