Most people have heard of celiac disease.
Far fewer actually understand it.
Celiac disease is not a food allergy.
It is a systemic autoimmune disease where eating gluten—proteins found in wheat, rye, and barley—can trigger an immune response that damages the small intestine and can affect far more than digestion.
For some, symptoms look obvious.
For others, it looks like:
- anemia
- fatigue
- brain fog
- infertility
- joint pain
- neuropathy
- skin issues
- osteoporosis
- anxiety or depression
- or no obvious symptoms at all
That’s part of what makes celiac disease so misunderstood.
May is Celiac Disease Awareness Month.
This month I’ll be sharing facts, humor, hard truths, and the real-life stuff most people never see.
If you know someone with celiac disease…
Better yet—share it with someone who loves them.
