A couple of days I asked what you guys wanted to hear about. Since we are coming up on summer many people asked about road trip planning.
In my mind there are three types of road tips – the wanderer, the far away destination, and the fly and drive.
The Wanderer roadtrip is where being on the road is the trip. It involves a lot of moving from place to place with no real destination in mind or maybe a series of destinations over the course of a few days or weeks. This one is harder to plan, but definitely doable gluten free.
The Far Away Destination road trip is where you are driving for a long day or maybe two to a far away destination. We live in Atlanta and have considered driving to Disneyland in Anaheim, California. It would take us several days to drive cross country, but the goal would be to get there as quickly as possible.
The Fly and Drive road trip is a combination of the two. You fly to a destination and then hop in the car to enjoy more of a far flung area. For example, fly into San Francisco and then drive the Pacific Coast Highway to enjoy the scenery, get to Disneyland, then hop on a plan to fly home to ATL.
I’ve done them all. I’ve done some of them since being diagnosed with celiac disease. But the common denominator is an attempt to find gluten free safe food. If you are wary of restaurants, eating sandwiches or salads all the time can be boring. I think all involve the need for some gluten free snacks and staples and the need for a more substantial meal with little to no cooking.
Over the next few days, I’m going to make suggestions for how I would plan gluten free travel.
