Gluten-free food boredom is real. I have plenty of recipes, a refrigerator full of food and a husband who batch-cooks proteins—and I am still tired of eating everything in my regular rotation.

I’m bored.

I’ve been eating the same things over and over again.

I have plenty of recipes, and I’ve been cycling through all the summer salads:

  • Watermelon, feta, and basil
  • Caprese
  • Cucumber, tomato, and red onion
  • Corn, black bean, and avocado
  • Crispy rice with cucumber, edamame, and chicken or shrimp
  • Wedge salad with lots of bacon, tomato, and homemade ranch

Right now, I’m especially into honey-lemon dressing.

The salads are good. I’ve just eaten so many of them that I cannot anymore.

Then there are the proteins. My husband has been batch-cooking flank steak, hamburgers, salmon, and chicken, so I barely even have to cook. I just need to add a creative side and call it dinner.

But I’m bored there too.

Summer squash. Zucchini. Corn on the cob. Corn off the cob sautéed in butter with basil and green onion. Baked beans. Potatoes every way you can imagine.

This is not one of those fun food obsession phases where I can happily eat the same thing repeatedly.

One summer, I fried chicken tenders almost every night because I was trying to perfect the recipe.

Another summer, I made gluten-free Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuits at least twice a week, heating up the kitchen when it was already unbearably hot outside.

This is different.

Nothing sounds exciting. Nothing tastes especially good. I need a new obsession.

So tell me:

What food are you obsessed with right now?

Gluten-free food boredom does not mean there is nothing to eat. Sometimes it means the reliable foods have become too reliable.

So tell me: what gluten-free meal, snack, side dish or accidental food obsession are you eating repeatedly right now? I need inspiration.

P.S. I’m not a baker. I have tried gluten-free focaccia and sourdough. My starter worked beautifully. I just discovered that I do not actually like baking sourdough bread but I definitely enjoy eating sourdough bread.

Other times I talked about food boredom

Apparently, this is not a new problem for me. I wrote about gluten-free food boredom back in 2020, when I was already tired of cycling through the same reliable foods.

I revisited the same struggle in my personal journey with food boredom. Safe and dependable meals make life easier, but sometimes the repetition becomes exhausting.
