I was thinking – many people talk about hating using the word “diet” when talking about being gluten free. They think it denotes a fad or temporary state.

I’m not a big fan of using “lifestyle”. When you say, “I live a gluten free lifestyle”. It sounds so breezy and casual.

I was thinking. What if we said, “I live a gluten free life.” Direct, pointed, and accurate. We could do it like our Kosher friends, “I keep gluten free.”

Words matter. I use the words “celiac patient” or “one who has celiac disease” rather than “the celiac”. For example, “The celiac eats gluten free.” Makes having celiac a noun. It isn’t a noun. I’m not only celiac. I’m a mother, daughter, sister, wife, and friend and I have celiac disease. It is not my only defining characteristic.

Tell me how you talk about being gluten free.
