Some worries about celiac disease are obvious. Others sit quietly underneath every meal, trip, relationship, and medical appointment.

What worries you most about living with celiac disease?

Not the small daily annoyances. The thing underneath all of them.

Getting sick from food you trusted?

Developing another health problem?

Being seen as difficult?

The cost?

Travel?

Dating?

Your child being diagnosed?

Never knowing whether you are doing enough?

I’ll go first.

I worry about all the years I lived undiagnosed. I don’t know exactly when my celiac disease was triggered, but my beer-drinking college days suggest it was active for a very long time. Apparently, having diarrhea after a night of drinking beer is not normal—but I digress.

Sometimes it feels like those years were spent racking up “body debt,” and one day the bill might come due.

It hasn’t yet, so fingers crossed.

There are no wrong answers here. I want to understand what people in this community are carrying—even the fears we do not usually say out loud.
