Fat Celiac exists because celiac disease is often reduced to bread, recipes, and a thin wellness stereotype. The reality is a lifelong autoimmune disease that requires science, judgment, practical systems, and room for people whose bodies and experiences do not fit the expected picture.

Fat Celiac is not just a catchy name.

“Fat” and “celiac” carry equal weight in the logo because both are part of my story.

Celiac defines more of my daily life. But “fat” is part of why this page exists too.

Lots of people do not like that I use “fat” in my social media name—but I think it is important, and I did not like “zaftig.”

I did not look like the version of celiac disease people expected.

I was not wasting away. I was not underweight. After diagnosis, I gained weight.

I did not—and still do not—fit the thin, polished, wellness-influencer version of gluten-free life.

And I know I am not the only one who does not fit the picture.

Fat Celiac exists for people trying to manage a serious autoimmune disease in a world that often reduces it to bread, recipes, or a lifestyle choice.

I am here to provide information that helps you live your gluten-free life with more grace, confidence, and knowledge.

That means talking about science without making it impossible to understand.

It means understanding and discussing real risk without turning every vacation, restaurant, grocery store trip, or meal into a crisis.

It means acknowledging that perfection is impossible while still taking the disease seriously.

It means helping people ask better questions, understand their bodies, and make informed decisions in a gluten-covered world.

I am not here to be the gluten police.

I am not here to tell you that every symptom is due to gluten ingestion.

I am not here to make you afraid of your kitchen, your family, restaurants, travel, or your own skin.

I am also not here to pretend this disease is easy.

Celiac disease can be expensive, exhausting, socially isolating, medically complicated, and deeply misunderstood.

Sometimes the research is clear.

Sometimes it is incomplete.

That difference matters because the newest study often gets the biggest headline, even when it conflicts with everything that came before it. One study is not the same thing as a body of evidence. Context matters.

Sometimes two people with celiac disease can make different reasonable decisions based on their health, circumstances, access, and tolerance for risk.

Those differences matter, and the answer is not always absolute.

Fat Celiac is science, advocacy, practical guidance, personal experience, and a little side-eye when the situation calls for it.

This page is for people who want to understand celiac disease—not simply fear it.

It is for people who want to live fully while still respecting what the disease requires.

And it is for anyone who has ever felt like they did not look, react, heal, struggle, or live gluten-free the way they were supposedly expected to.

You belong here.

So, come live in the Fat Celiac world.

We are going to learn, question, laugh, advocate, and hopefully live our gluten-free lives with a little more knowledge and a little less fear.
