Day 1 – Diagnosis
Relief. You finally have a name for what’s been making you feel awful.

Later that day
Panic. What’s for dinner? No idea, so you eat something “safe.” A salad… with a dressing you didn’t think to question.

Day 2 – The purge
You clear out your pantry, fridge, and freezer. If it doesn’t say gluten-free, it’s gone.
You’re left with almost nothing.

Dinner
Another salad. This time dry.

Day 3 – First grocery trip
Hours of label reading. Google searches in the aisle. Frustration, maybe tears.
You leave with… more salad. And a dressing that’s not bad, just different.

Day 4 – Lunch with coworkers
They pick a place. You scan the menu. Nothing feels safe. So you sit in your car alone, and maybe some tears.

Month 1
You are so tired of salad. You start figuring things out—plain chicken, plain burgers.
Safe. Predictable. Boring. You are afraid this will be your life moving forward.

Month 6 – The first glutening
You don’t know what it was. But you know it was gluten.
The vomiting. The pain. The exhaustion.
You double down. More careful. Less trust.

Month 9 – The Shift
Something shifts. You have a few meals that work. A few brands you trust.
The grocery store still takes forever, but not quite as long.

1 Year – Confidence Building
You’ve got systems now. Meals you like. A rhythm. Good doctor appointment – all celiac blood tests going down. You are doing something right.

5 Years – Gluten free life is second nature
This is just life. Second nature. Blood tests have normalized. Systems in place, recipes memorized, and gluten free restaurants on speed dial. Confidence to try new gluten free products when they come out.

10 Years – The revelation
You realize something no one told you at the beginning:
Living gluten-free isn’t about perfection.

It’s about risk management.

Knowing enough to stay safe… while still living your life.
